Having spent nearly a month focusing on walks and easy runs to build my endurance, I decided it was time to take on a familiar challenge again: the Latarambeshwor Mahadev hike. This was my second time on this trail, and I was curious to see how my progress would translate to the real thing.
Right from the start, it felt different—easier, smoother, like a walk I’d been preparing for all along. Compared to my first attempt, when I had those nagging moments of “Maybe I should stop,” this time, I felt more than capable. It was as smooth as butter! Not only did I go further in distance, but I also did it with a lot more confidence.
There were just four of us on this hike, each moving at our own pace but constantly trying to catch up with one another. That unspoken, friendly competition kept things lively, adding a touch of fun to our journey. And what made it even better? Walking through the dense forest and steady uphill sections, each step adding its own charm to the adventure. Every now and then, we’d run into fellow hikers, a reminder that we weren’t the only ones drawn to this captivating trail.
One of my favorite parts of this hike has to be the final stretch before reaching Latarambeshwor Temple. The trail narrows down to a ridge that barely fits a single person at a time. On either side of you is a steep drop, with just an iron bar to keep you steady. It’s thrilling, a little nerve-wracking, and absolutely unforgettable! Each step across that ridge fills you with excitement and a hint of caution, making the temple at the end feel like a true reward.
This time, the atmosphere around us was even more magical. The entire trail was shrouded in early morning clouds that shifted and moved as if they had a life of their own. One moment, everything was veiled in mist, and the next, the clouds would lift, offering glimpses of the hills. It felt like nature’s own performance, constantly changing but always beautiful. I found myself pausing just to watch this scene unfold—there’s something mesmerizing about watching clouds wrap around the hills and clear up in an instant.
At the temple, any lingering fatigue was swept away by a cool breeze and the mist that hid the valley below. It’s moments like these that make the climb worth every ounce of effort. Standing there, surrounded by the mist, with a view that felt both mysterious and serene, was incredibly rewarding. The anticipation of reaching the top and taking in the sights kept us motivated and ready for anything.
This hike isn’t easy—it’s steep, and the ups and downs will test your stamina. But that’s the beauty of it. Each challenge you overcome makes the journey that much more satisfying. The rugged terrain adds a sense of adventure that, once you experience it, you won’t forget.
So, to anyone considering a hike, Latarambeshwor Mahadev is a must. I’d recommend it to every adventure lover out there. And as for me, I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Every hike offers something new, and I know this trail has more in store.
